Production Engineer (Precision Engineering)

We are looking for an experienced CNC Production Engineer to join a precision manufacturing business in Portsmouth. This role bridges engineering, programming and production, supporting high-precision machining, process improvement and new product introduction.

The Role

• Program and optimise 3–5 axis CNC machines using CAD/CAM software such as NCG, Hypermill or EdgeCAM.
• Set up Heidenhain-controlled machines and ensure standardised machining parameters are maintained.
• Develop DFM improvements to reduce cycle times, costs and waste.
• Support production on the shop floor, troubleshooting issues and maintaining quality standards.
• Create SOPs, routing procedures and technical documentation.
• Lead and support process capability studies, continuous improvement and NPI activities.
• Work closely with Design, Sales and Production to improve quoting accuracy and tooling cost control.

About You

• Proven experience in a high-precision CNC manufacturing environment.
• Strong CAD/CAM knowledge and Heidenhain setup/programming experience.
• Good understanding of GD&T, materials, cutting tools and manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with MSA, capability studies, Lean and ISO 9001.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Confident using Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
• A good communicator who works well with production, engineering and leadership teams.
