Quality Inspector Role & Responsibilities

  • Well-versed using a range of hand tools to accurately inspect components
  • Comfortable completing FAIRs and necessary documentation
  • Have a keen eye for detail
  • Knowledge of CMMs is desirable but not essential
  • The ability to program CMMs will be crucial for the higher end of the salary bracket
  • Able to work from and interpret technical drawings
  • A background in Quality Inspecting to aerospace, defence or similar standards is desirable but training will be provided for the right candidate

Quality Engineer Responsibilities

Ensuring Quality from Concept to Completion

  • Leading the Way: Spearhead APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) processes, including PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and FAIRs (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis Reports).
  • Plan Implementation and Oversight: Oversee the creation and execution of inspection and certification control plans, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Supporting Production: Collaborate with the Project Management team during contract reviews to identify potential quality concerns and proactively address them.
  • Inspection Champion: Champion visual and dimensional inspection throughout the production process, supporting the approval of manufactured parts.
  • Final Sign-off: Conduct final inspections of completed components and assemblies, providing final sign-off for quality assurance.
  • Manufacturing Liaison: Act as a quality liaison to production areas, identifying and addressing quality issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate measurement systems and recommend updates to procedures when necessary.

Maintaining a Robust Quality Management System (QMS):

  • Active QMS Supporter: Play a key role in maintaining and improving the company’s QMS to meet ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Internal Audit Expert: Conduct internal audits of the company’s processes to ensure alignment with quality standards.
  • Shop Floor Champion: Perform scheduled product sample and process audits on the shop floor.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting: Maintain and report on the performance of the QMS, highlighting key metrics.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Manage all non-conformance issues, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Quality Engineer Experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience: Prior work experience as a Quality Engineer or a similar role, ideally in an electronics-based product manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge:
    • In-depth understanding of technical documentation, including engineering drawings.
    • Familiarity with Defence Standards.
    • Knowledge of electronic/electrical components and cabling.
  • Communication skills:
    • Good interpersonal skills for working independently and collaboratively.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to compose clear and concise reports and documentation.
  • Work ethic:
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Quality Systems:
    • Experience implementing APQP requirements to fulfill customer expectations.
    • Qualified and experienced quality auditor to ISO 9001.

Desirable:

  • Lean Manufacturing: Experience with lean methodologies like 5S and POKA YOKE.
  • Defence Industry: Experience with quality processes specific to the Defence industry.
  • Standards: Previous experience in or qualification to IPC-A-610/ IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards (standards for electronics assembly).
  • Technical Communication: The ability to explain complex technical information in a clear and concise way.
