I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a leading international manufacturing organisation specialising in sustainable and innovative packaging solutions, for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their established site team.

This business operates state-of-the-art production facilities and is known for its strong investment in people, technology, and continuous improvement, making this an excellent opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to thrive in a forward-thinking environment.

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring site machinery operates efficiently and reliably. Working on a shift-based rota, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and repair of a wide range of mechanical systems to minimise downtime and support continuous production.
In this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine inspections across site equipment
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults quickly to reduce production downtime
  • Repairing or replacing components across machinery including thermoformers, extruders, conveyors, compressors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems, and gearboxes
  • Supporting installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with Health & Safety, Quality, Hygiene, and Environmental standards
  • Completing maintenance documentation, reports, and handovers accurately
  • Working collaboratively with production teams, maintenance colleagues, and external contractors
  • Managing and maintaining spare parts inventory and escalating requirements when needed
  • Supporting root cause analysis investigations and implementing long-term solutions
  • Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance
  • Supporting fire safety procedures, including alarm testing and acting as a fire marshal when required
  • Highlighting potential equipment or tooling issues that may impact production performance

To be successful in this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer role, you will need:

  • A recognised mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent)
  • Proven experience within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC
  • Experience working with PPM systems and maintenance schedules
  • Solid fault-finding and problem-solving skills, ideally with Root Cause Analysis experience
  • The ability to work effectively within a shift-based environment

Desirable skills for the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer include:

  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Abrasive wheels certification

In return, the successful Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will benefit from:

  • A competitive salary package (£47,000 – £53,500 including shift allowance)
  • Panama shift pattern offering structured work-life balance
  • 6-monthly production bonus
  • Group life assurance and healthcare cash plan
  • Long service rewards
  • Contribution towards safety equipment
  • A supportive, team-focused environment with strong career development opportunities

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a business that values reliability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
