If you’re a skilled Manual Turner who enjoys proper hands-on machining and working to tight tolerances, this is a great opportunity to join a busy, well-structured production team in Christchurch.

The role
As a Manual Turner, you’ll be setting and operating manual lathes to produce high-quality parts to specification. You’ll manage your own setups, ensure accuracy, and keep production records up to date. It’s a role suited to someone reliable, detail-focused, and confident working independently on the shop floor.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Set up manual lathes with correct tooling and fixtures
  • Machine components to required tolerances
  • Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges and CMMs
  • Identify and report defects or non-conformities
  • Log completed jobs, machine hours and tool wear
  • Carry out basic machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication)
  • Troubleshoot machining or tooling issues
  • Work closely with engineers and production management
  • Follow all health & safety and quality procedures

  • Proven experience as a Manual Turner
  • Strong ability to read and work from technical drawings
  • Confident setting and operating manual lathes independently
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment
  • Good understanding of tolerances and quality standards
  • Reliable and consistent approach to work
