If you’re a skilled Manual Turner who enjoys proper hands-on machining and working to tight tolerances, this is a great opportunity to join a busy, well-structured production team in Christchurch.
The role
As a Manual Turner, you’ll be setting and operating manual lathes to produce high-quality parts to specification. You’ll manage your own setups, ensure accuracy, and keep production records up to date. It’s a role suited to someone reliable, detail-focused, and confident working independently on the shop floor.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Set up manual lathes with correct tooling and fixtures
- Machine components to required tolerances
- Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges and CMMs
- Identify and report defects or non-conformities
- Log completed jobs, machine hours and tool wear
- Carry out basic machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication)
- Troubleshoot machining or tooling issues
- Work closely with engineers and production management
- Follow all health & safety and quality procedures

- Proven experience as a Manual Turner
- Strong ability to read and work from technical drawings
- Confident setting and operating manual lathes independently
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Good understanding of tolerances and quality standards
- Reliable and consistent approach to work
