We are looking for a Project Manager to join a busy Christchurch operations team, delivering multiple engineering projects from order through to shipment, install support, and close-out. If you enjoy juggling schedules, stakeholders, quality packs, and the odd curveball, this Project Manager role will suitA you down to the ground.
You will be working for a well-established engineering manufacturer supporting complex industrial projects. It is a stable, process-driven environment with strong standards around safety, quality, and delivery, and you will sit right at the centre of it as the Project Manager.
The Project Manager role, what you will be doing
As Project Manager, you will plan, execute, and deliver projects on time, in scope, and within budget, while keeping quality and safety front and centre. The Project Manager is the key link between customers, internal teams, and external partners, ensuring commercial and technical requirements are met against the agreed purchase specification.
Key responsibilities for the Project Manager include:
- Owning end-to-end project execution in line with internal procedures
- Defining, maintaining, and managing project schedules, including critical paths and risks
- Coordinating cross-functional activity across planning, procurement, engineering, production, and sales
- Leading regular project meetings covering progress, budget, at-risk actions, and customer changes
- Being the primary customer contact for schedule and technical or commercial deliverables, including up to warranty expiry
- Ensuring quality packs are complete, including inspection records prior to shipping
- Managing non-conformances, documenting root cause, and driving corrective actions
- Monitoring and reporting cost deviations, including project hours and material spend during and post execution
- Handling contract financial changes, keeping commercial and sales teams informed
- Supporting bids with delivery schedules aligned to business capacity and loading
- Coordinating site activities for project completion with the site team and resource planning
- Initiating invoicing, packing, and shipping to the correct INCO and contractual requirements, coordinating with logistics partners
- Completing project close-outs, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement
What we are looking for in a Project Manager
Essential
- Proven experience as a Project Manager managing multiple projects at the same time
- Strong leadership skills, you can drive projects through to conclusion
- Solid understanding of engineering project delivery, planning, procurement, production, and commercial considerations
- Confident communicator with the ability to manage stakeholders at all levels
- Working knowledge of health and safety requirements
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Organised, self-motivated, and strong in time management
- IT literate, comfortable using business systems and tools
- Good financial awareness for budgeting and cost control
Desirable
- Experience overseeing installation, start-up, or commissioning
- Background in heavy engineering or industrial technology environments
- Ability to negotiate confidently with customers
- Understanding of engineering standards and technical documentation
Qualifications
- Formal project management qualification, PMP, PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent
- At least 5 years’ experience in an engineering field in a Project Manager capacity
Additional info
- Christchurch-based, this is the primary location for the Project Manager
- Some travel to customer and supplier sites is required, sometimes at short notice
- Occasional availability outside normal working hours may be needed depending on project demands
Salary
- £50,000 to £55,000 depending on experience
