Electronics Control Engineer

I am currently recruiting for an Electrical Controls Engineer to join a technically advanced engineering organisation based in Bournemouth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong controls background to work on the development of innovative, high-quality products from concept through to manufacture and launch.

The role will involve the design, development, and implementation of electrical and software-based control systems, working closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, product management, manufacturing, and sales. This position offers a high level of technical involvement and the opportunity to contribute directly to commercially successful products.

Key Responsibilities Of an Electrical Controls Engineer:

  • Design and develop electrical hardware and control systems in line with product specifications and new product development processes
  • Produce electrical schematics, layouts, and bills of materials to support full product lifecycle delivery
  • Develop project schedules, technical documentation, and work plans
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones
  • Implement and refine electrical, software, and functional testing methods
  • Support new product start-up activities and address quality issues with suppliers
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and logical systems within development and manufacturing environments
  • Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and support continuous improvement initiatives

Candidate Requirements for an Electrical Controls Engineer:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 3–5 years’ experience in electrical or electronic product development
  • Strong background in advanced controls engineering
  • Proven PLC programming experience, ideally using CodeSys and IEC 61131-3 languages
  • Experience in HMI development
  • Knowledge of EMC compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with fieldbus communication protocols such as Ethernet IP, EtherCAT, or CAN
  • Competence using laboratory instruments and electrical test equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
